Ovulation Induction Treatment

One of the most common causes for a delay in pregnancy is ovulatory dysfunction which means there is a problem causing abnormal egg ripening and/or egg release. Many endocrine problems including thyroid, pituitary and adrenal issues cause ovulatory dysfunction.  Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is another extremely common endocrine problem that leads to a problem with ovulation and delay in pregnancy.  Very often, the precise cause of disordered ovulation is not known.

Ovulation problems from any cause can very often be successfully overcome using non invasive and less costly treatments with medicines. Even women with advanced age or other problems with egg quality or numbers can successfully achieve pregnancy with medicines rather than IVF.  These medicines are in a category of treatment called ovulation induction.  Clomiphene and letrozole are medicines taken by mouth that help a woman ovulate on her own and FSH hormones (i.e Follistim or Gonal F) are injected medicines that also help the ovary ovulate normally. Depending on individual circumstances and preferences, these treatments can be combined with intrauterine insemination (IUI) to place the sperm directly into the uterus through a thin tube.

Many women do not need costly and invasive surgery such as IVF in order to get pregnant.  Dr. Glueck’s priority is to ensure that the cause of infertility is fully understood and addressed in a logical and appropriate way. This means a highly individualized work up and protocol for treatment.  Over and over again, Dr. Glueck’s approach results in successful pregnancies in women who were never offered less invasive treatment options and/or have not done well with IVF.

Her hands-on approach means you always see Dr. Glueck each time you come in. She is always directly accessible during your treatment cycle, performing her own monitoring ultrasounds and procedures including insemination, if needed. She also does all sperm analysis and preparation for intrauterine insemination (IUI) in the in-house andrology lab. This combination of careful diagnosis and highly individualized care is the reason why Dr. Glueck is so successful in helping couples achieve a pregnancy.
